I received a coupon in the mail for $10.00 off my meal at a not so local, local restaurant.
The restaurant is in another county over.
Mr. Cottage said lets spend Sunday doing the rounds.
We haven’t done the rounds in a long time.
Don’t let your mind wander too far into the gutter.
The rounds include driving the back country roads and taking in the beautiful scenery.
Hitting the antique shops, lunch at the $10.00 off restaurant and finally a few thrift stores.
A few of our finds from the day.
Mr. Cottage spotted this pile of Chinese money from the 1940’s.
I love the graphics on this old Clark’s thread box.
A basket full of old lace and tatting.
Vintage fabric – oooh aaahhh
It has a bird on it, so it must go home with me.
Poor Cock Robin printed in the 1800’s. The graphics are stunningly colorful and beautiful. A child’s tale, a wee bit on the sad side.
More birds – these are from the Ogden cigarette company which was a branch of the Imperial Tobacco Co. of Great Britain and Ireland.
Will’s Cigarettes – Butterfly cards also from the 1920’s. I enjoy the back with the typeset almost as much as the images on the front.
These are the stuff of my mixed media dreams. My creative thoughts are swirling with the possibilities.
What a grand day Mr. Cottage and I had on our coupon date.
I’m off to play with my new stash.
See you later,
Bye!
Kim
If the lace and tatting could talk, oh the stories they would tell.

Do you think they would be tattling?

The bird in the coffin has me still smiling!!! I LOVE your treasures! You and I have the same taste in stuff. You must have had a wonderful day-my hubby and I plan to do the same antique store hopping very soon. It would be fun to go together with you and your hubby! Maybe someday….Thank you for your nice comment at my art blog. So far I am very STUCK as far as design-I am not very original-my pictures in my head are not matching up with what I’m making. I think I’m in a rut or artist’s block maybe..I don’t like it!!

Oh Debra a fun antique hook up with be lovely. Charles and I used to go up to Pennsylvania regularly to the big antique extravaganzas and the auction houses. That was back when I owned a big antique mall and auction house. My family is from PA, so it was a twofer. I miss those days. That is as far north as we went though.
I know about feeling stuck and the more you try to force it the worse it gets. My minds eye never quite turns into reality. AND since I can’t follow directions I don’t have a go to for following. It is what makes your art unique. Relish the moment and think spring planting. Thinking of Sam and Titus – hope they are pool hoping! xok

Thank you , Kim-I needed some encouragement! Maybe it’s just cabin fever…I was born in Pa-on a dairy farm.
It’s just getting above zero today, so Sam and Titus are inside-again!
Take care!!! 🙂

And, I haven’t forgotten about the cuff, just haven’t decided yet and have to wait until I get paid again next week. You can hold the earrings if you want so you only have to mail once.

Hi Caroline – we went first to that place in Gordonsville, that looks like it should be closed, and then the red barn in Ruckersville, that looks like it should be closed – LOL! The Goodwill in Ruckersville is my favorite one in our area – I always find treasures there for a reasonable price. It was a good day. 🙂

You’re right, they do look like they should be closed! Sometimes you can find the best stuff in places like that even though you wonder if it’s safe to go in. It’s been a while since I’ve gone that way, will have to do it soon but need to use up the stash I’ve already collected before I can get more -lol! 🙂

Really? You are supposed to use up what you already have – I don’t go by that rule! HA LOL

Wow!! Your finds are amazing! Lots of lovely goodies to craft with. I love the old cigarette cards – they’re like little works of art. I have a stash of them too, though mine are from the fifties and the writing on the back isn’t as pretty. I can’t wait to see what you make with your finds! 🙂
