fly away

Remember how I was telling you guys about the snake raiding the Blue bird box?  Well he got his.  Graphic photo alert.

I’m trying not to be happy about a being losing their life.  However, there are way too many of them around and they have become quite aggressive towards the cats and me.

Monday I had a medical procedure done first thing in the morning.  It was such a beautiful day when I returned home, I plopped myself down in a lawn chair where I spent the rest of the day sleeping off the anesthesia and just generally being a no account.

A few days earlier I had mention to Mr. Cottage how much I wish I could witness the blue birds fly out of the box.  Anyway back to me being a no account.   I was dreaming something that had a loud beeping going on.  I slowly realized that it wasn’t a dream that there was a bit of a commotion going on around me.  The beeping was loud chirping and it was coming from the bird house across the garden.  I stood up to see what was going on and zoom right out of the box a baby flew straight at me and into my chest and plopped down at my feet.  Holy cow did that just happen?  I was trying to wake myself up enough to respond,  quick get the cat away from a fast snack.

This is the fledgling that flew into my chest.  And yes, if you are wondering, I was sleeping with my camera in my lap.

Little goober head looking out wondering if it can make the journey.

Mom and dad supervise as all three take off.

Not only did I get to watch the fledglings take off, but one of them made contact with me.  How cool is that?

I’m sharing some advice I received this week.

Sometimes letting go is the fastest way to move forward.

See you later,  Bye!

  1. Very cool, Kim! I’m so glad you got to see them fly, and isn’t it a riot that the Universe made sure you didn’t miss it by having one fly right into you, straight at your heart. Perfect. And good advice, too. Hope you are feeling better.

  2. I like that globe thingie that the mom and pop birds are sitting on during their supervision. I don’t have any problem with one less snake in the world. I’ve got a black snake that keeps scaring the beejeezuz out of me because he apparently lives in the bordergrass but I’ve allowed him to live because Poppie says they kill mice and rats.

    • That globe thingie was a gift from my sister. She made it many years ago for me. It has a name, but darn if I can remember now what it is. The birds love it as much as I do. I know that those darn black snakes do some good and generally I will leave them alone, unless they come after me and I have a shovel in my hand at the time. I don’t have any problem bashing in their heads. xo

  3. Oh Kim-This is such a beautiful little story. I’m glad you had your camera with you! Please take care of yourself-I’ll be praying for ya….

    • It gives me goosebumps when I think about it. I love being at the right place at the right time and with my camera, which is generally attached to me anyway. I’m good, your prayers are felt. xok

  4. I’m so happy you received the goodness of the little bird flying straight to you. You have some amazing experiences with wildlife! And how true your sage advice is…I’ve experienced that myself many times. I also like the full saying “Let Go and Let God” because the second part reminds me to have faith. Peace to your heart

  5. WAS the demise assisted? Or did the netting do it in? I’ve had two st
rangle themselves in the netting at my pond.

  6. I also love that globe “thingy,” and your sweet bluebird pics. Our bluebird house is occupied, but I’m not sure the tenants are bluebirds. It’s not very close to the house. Our new martin house is bustling with activity, but again I’m seeing a variety of birds going in and out. Oh well, we don’t discriminate. So glad you got to see your baby bluebirds and hope you recover from your procedure quickly. “Procedures,” not my fave part of growing older!

  7. I’m so glad you had your camera with you so you could share those special moments with you. Your blue birds are beautiful they remind me of Snow White we don’t get anything like that here. I’m so glad your dream came true, Hope you are feeling OK, take care. Sarah x

    • Well now I hadn’t thought of that – I assume you mean the scene where she is standing there and birds fly around her head. What a lovely visual, thank you for making me see that. xo
