Living a creative life artist farmer dreamer

silos and spires

Kim of Red Dirt Farm and Studio

We left Virginia and  headed north on a cold blustery day to be with family.

Our destination was the family church. Atop the mountain, we take in the sweeping views of the valley below.

Across from the church is an Amish farm.

The silos are filled ready for winter feeding.  Across the valley; farm after farm dot the country side.

These farms are slowly disappearing –  victims of large housing developments.  Truly, it breaks my heart.

All my life I have loved these views.

My family church, St. Peter’s reformed German church.

As children, my sisters and I climbed to the top of the bell tower with our Grandpop.  I wouldn’t dream of making that climb today.

Tears from heaven is what my aunt called it as the sleet came down.

My sister, always the creative instigator provided the bubble action; it was a beautiful farewell.

See you later, Bye!

  2. Hi Kim!
Thank you for sharing these beautiful views, complete with bubbles! Nice touch…I’ll have to remember that.
It is beyond sad that we are allowing developers to have such massive impact on our country.

    1. Melissa – the bubbles were a wonderful light heart touch to a somber occasion – perfect timing on my sisters behalf. As far as the development, it is mind blowing, in such a bad way. We have it around here too, but not to the extreme like I see in my family home town in Pennsylvania. The farms and the land and that lifestyle gone, never to be again. So sad.

Beautiful photos of lovely countryside. I agree with the sadness over the loss of so many family farms…it’s a way of life that is disappearing. Take care.

    1. Yes, Sarah, you are right, it isn’t just the loss of the land but that farming lifestyle. Greed is the root. Sigh. I’ll get off my soap box now. Hugs xok
