Hi Kim, I came across this image while searching for photos that show sunflowers in an attractive way in a garden. Would it be possible for us to use this image in our July/August issue of The American Gardener magazine, published by the American Horticultural Society? Thank you! Btw, we’re based in Alexandria, VA so if you ever get up this way from central VA, do stop by River Farm (near to Mount Vernon)! We have 25 acres on the Potomac, which are open to the public.

I love the idea of the zinnias beneath/in front of the sunflowers! Do you remember the name of these specific sunflowers? And is it bamboo or decorative grass behind them?

Hi Brandy – thank you for stopping in and asking about the plants. The grass in the background is Zebra Grass – Miscanthus Sinensis. The sunflowers are actually a mix of a couple different varieties, and I’m afraid I no longer recall which ones. Each year I plant this same area with sunflowers and zinnas – sometimes I add cosmos and nasturtiums. This is the first area I seed each spring – it has become a ritual that I really look forward to. Best, Kim
