Thank you for your kind response to the post last week, about the crappy week I had.
Our little dog Peanut is doing pretty good except she had a really bad seizure about 4 am the other night. It scared me and left me feeling pretty helpless. Afterward, she went right back to sleep as though nothing had happened. I, however, was up for the rest of the night after that.

A few weeks ago I ordered some exterior lights for the house. We have been anxiously awaiting their arrival. They came in on Friday and Mr. Cottage put them up right away.
They are barn style lights, shiny red to match the roof.
We got two large, one for the front of the house and the other to go over the cellar door.
Mr. Cottage rigged up some scaffolding in order to reach above the cellar door, which is gonna be a pain in the you-know-what – whenever the light bulb has to be replaced.
The cellar door will be painted the same red as the roof eventually. Gonna be a big deal at our house tonight when we get to turn the lights on for the first time. Whoo Hoo! – Oh the simple pleasures in life.
I also ordered lights for the front porch and the back porches. Unfortunately, I think I ordered lights too small. The scale doesn’t seem right to me at all and it is driving me nuts. These are a custom order and can not be returned.
So I’ve been thinking about using them in another location.
See the light to the left of the door – seems way too small to me. What do you think?
Dottie has gone broody – she chose the same location to set, that Daisy picked in December. I think she has 6 eggs, not all of them are hers. The 21-day countdown begins.
Cooler weather with snow is on the way. I expect all of the fruit trees to be a loss, once again this year. Bummer.
I cut branches from the pear and peach trees as well as some forsythia, spirea, daffodils and Lenten rose. Darlene says they smell good! I’ll enjoy the blooms while the flakes are falling in the next few days.

I love the red light fixtures! The one by the back door looks good. It might be a bit small, but it’s hard to tell in the picture. I’d see how it looks lit up before you decide to change it out.

We really like the lights too. The smaller ones put out pretty good light, but I have to say they are really looking way too small, I think. The budget is the biggest consideration so we may be living with them. Thanks for popping in and leaving a note. xo Kim

So pretty!! I hope the dog will be ok… We had a dog once who had seizures. He was fine with medication and lived until 13. X

Thank you! Peanut is old and really has a lot of health problems. The seizures are just the latest issue. We will continue to love her and make her as comfortable as possible. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. xo kim

Heavens to Betsy, I love, LOVE, love, the new red lights! YOU DID GOOD! Nothing wrong with the scale of the light to the left of the glass door. You wouldn’t want those big honking lights over the cellar to be over the back door! Talk about out of scale! But the big honking lights are PERFECT for the front and over the cellar. Don’t LED lights last longer? If so, that’s what you should put in the light fixture over the cellar. Plus, they are more economical to run. Be watching for an email from me, ok?

Love your splashes of RED : ) Your color palette is wonderful, reminds me of Key West…and adore the photos of the pets (especially the chickens…) I was so sad to read the last post, and hope the baby chix are doing well and Peanut will be okay… it is so NOT fun to grow old. And, of course, love your wild flowers and hope the seasons get themselves sorted and back into proper order very soon : )

Hi Debbie – I’m loving those splashes of red too. People used to say all the time that the old paint colors on the house reminded them of Key West, you are the first to say it with these new more subdued colors. Sadly we lost two more chicks after I wrote that last post. Dare I say I think the ones remaining will make it. Peanut hanging in there. xo kim

Well…..I do have to agree with you about the light. I would be the same way about it-it would bug me till I changed it-but the color is so wonderful-it may just grow on ya. By the way, Stanley Roo’s comb matches your lights perfectly, and I bet he’s pleased about that. I had to show my husband your post about Winter watching TV with you-and I cracked up again-so did he. I also showed him your photography blog-my gosh that’s amazing Kim. I’m blown away by it every time I look.
So glad you are posting often….and I do hope Peanut will be ok.

Debra – I think when the budget allows, I am going to have to replace the lights with a large size. One of my other artist friends suggested I use the smaller lights at the hen house and I think that is a great idea. Stanley Roo – says a light replica of his dashing figures would suit him! HA HA. Thank you again for such kind words about my photography – you know how much that means to me. 🙂

Gosh I love your cottage. The red lights really pop, and are perfect with the roof. I look forward to read about where you’re going to put those smaller red lights since you’ll likely move them. Another bigger one would be awesome in your porch! And today I went to the florist to buy forsythia but alas, none available. So I settled on tulips and some pussy willow branches. How I love your bouquet that Darlene is admiring! Thanks for sharing. Helps give me my spring-blooms-fix! xo
