I feel like one of the cats curled in the beams streaming through the window, seeking warmth. Beyond the glass, across the lawn heavy frost sparkles.
The thermometer read minus 5 this morning before sunrise. Pipes are frozen at the kitchen sink, as is the faucet outdoors we use to water the animals. This means hauling water from another part of the house, out to the barnyard.
It is too cold to stock the cooler with eggs at the farm stand – they will freeze, I’ve left word for folks to come to the house to get their eggs. Only a few will do so, I think most rather the convenience and anonymity of using the farm stand.
